The Nib Survey 2/18/02
What Kind of Nib Do You Like? I'm amazed at the variety of nibs available in vintage and modern pens. The choices really do go beyond fine, medium and broad. I remember seeing the Sheaffer and Esterbrook nib charts and thinking, "Wow! What a huge number of choices!" The modern Pelikan nib chart is almost as wide ranging. Who buys all those exotic nib types? I thought I'd put some science into the issue and devise a three part survey to gauge our community. The first survey is all about size, or width. Does size matter? So the question is. What is your favorite nib width? Pick from needle to extra-extra broad. The second question concerns flexibility. How flexible do you like your nib? Do you want a wet noodle or a nail, or something in between? The third question is about type. What nib style do you prefer? Are you a stub? Oblique?
